The FTC Is Not Going To Regulate Facebook Anytime Soon

David Dayen (@ddayen), one of my favorite journalists, has an interesting piece at The Intercept about the outrage over Facebook and Cambridge Analytica, and how the two potentially conspired to use Facebook user data to influence the 2016 Presidential election, and how the calls for regulation and oversight are, basically, not going to go anywhere because the Federal Trade Commission is not really regulating anything.

It all hinges around appointments to the commission and the senatorial giongs-on, and, once again, may be determined by people’s willingness to enter into a deal based on Mitch McConnell’s word.

Yep, we’re screwed. You can get started extricating yourself from Facebook, though, if you want to.
